If you look at the situation in Chinese, you will see that p2p video streaming is really successful. There are two major P2P video streaming provider, PPLive and PPStream, and many other similar companies, such as Thunder (a.k.a xunlei), Funshion. They support both live streaming and video-on-demand. Their clients, especially those most popular ones, like PPLive, PPStream and Thrunder, are installed on nearly every PC in China. They have attracted a large population of users and their solutions are definitely cheaper than those using CDN only.
