Why is one worse than the other? Either way the loss is the same, and either way it's my trust in the trusted partner (and nothing else) that's affected. The point of systems like Cheng and Friedman's Sybilproof reputation mechanism and PledgeRoute is to make the difference between your two examples irrelevant. However many Sybils there are, I only need to consider my trust in the trusted partner.
