Start with Zooko's Triangle?

Which has never been fully implemented.

Nicknames, and acquiring petnames, is the social part of Zooko's triangle, and the social part is always the hard part.

Globally unique names are easy, petnames are easy, but nicknames, to be useful, need good search on nicknames and information about nicknames, so nickname implementation tends to be sucky.

To make sure you have the right nickname, need zero knowledge passwords, as implemented in OTR, which your aunt mabel would conceptualize as something like logging on to get on the buddy list.
