When this list was started, most people on it knew next to nothing
about P2P, and those who did know something had widely ranging and
contradictory spectrum of opinions. Sounds familiar? :)

No, seriously, I've enjoyed this conversation a lot. Even though I'm
still of opinion that using monetary mechanisms to ensure P2P network
smooth operation is pointless (for more than one reason), but for the
past several years I had this feeling that - on the almost unrelated
note - P2P networks could be a very interesting tool for currency
transfers, payments, microcredits, and such.

Which is still sort of related to internal use of pseudocurrencies
inside the P2P networks themselves (the mechaisms might be similar)
on one hand, and who knows where all this might lead, on the other.
So the discussions of economics always look interesting to me. Would
love to be present at ianG's and Zooko's seminars - especially given
their novel beer-driven approach to reaching the consensus. Maybe
we should try this here one day, too. :)

Best wishes -
S.Osokine.

It's not only a matter of relevance (after all, politics is
everywhere, so political discussion should be relevant here, too) but
also of knowledge and efficiency. Many people here know about P2P
networks and some know a lot about it (are experts). Therefore,
discussion on P2P protocols here have a chance of being efficient (to
produce an useful outcome). But I'm afraid that most people here know
next to nothing about economics, and therefore will probably not
produce interesting discussions.
