Hi Roberto -
Yes, I remember coming across YouServ. However, if I remember right
this was only an intranet (LAN) solution - I may be wrong. Our goal
was to reach average email users because they are the ones that
struggle the most with transferring large files but your point is
well taken on the availability limitation. We are working on a number
of clustering, swarming and hardware options that will allow users to
overcome this limitation. We are hoping adsense will cover some costs
(not all). We are counting on the other premium services for that...
Best,
Ash

You guys should really integrate this with IM instead of e-mail. Since
the user has to be online to support the transfer, e-mail doesn't seem
to be the best delivery mechanism for your notifications.
We did this a while back in YouServ with the "SecureLink" plugin:
http://www.bayardo.org/ps/www2005_2.pdf. Unfortunately I could never
get it outside the confines of IBM. Sounds like BoxCloud is a very
similar idea, only using a centralized server to always act as a
trusted relay. I guess you're hoping the adsense clicks will allow
you to recoup the bandwidth costs?

Looks very cool! Can you give a quick overview of how it works?
I see you have Mac, Win, and (soon) Linux ports. Are you using
Java, or
what language?
You have some servers in place, clearly, to send out emails and
manage the
webserver. Do you use these servers as a central rendezvous
service, or do
you have some DHT to connect peers?
What other neat things are going on under the hood?
