I think I have found the issue with el7.  It doesn't have built-in c11 atomics,
so it is the only version that attempts to compile its own atomic_ops
functions, and it has a mistake.  It is missing an backslash (\) in line 101,
and this addition was only added in Mar 28.

I'll log it upstream, but for now, I'd exclude el7 until it is fixed.
