Hi,

Just wanted to let everyone know that we just committed a new add-on:
Proxy-Bypass.

Proxy-Bypass is the idea that PacketFence's captive portal should work
even in a setting where every desktop uses a mandatory proxy configured
in the browser.

It works if the client-configured Proxy is DNS-based. An IP based proxy
would require additional tricks.

The trick is to run a Squid proxy on the expected proxy port. Doing so,
the client will lookup the proxy's IP which will give PacketFence's IP
and initiate proxying with our squid proxy on the PacketFence server.
Then we perform redirection to the captive portal. Beside from Squid,
only some IP lookup tweaks were required on the captive portal.

If you are interested, check addons/proxy-bypass/README from our trunk
branch: http://mtn.inverse.ca/branch/changes/org.packetfence.trunk

It's not a very intrusive feature so it could be backported to 1.9 if
there is a demand for it.

Cheers!
