As part of our effort to run on more modern distros (Ubuntu Server, Fedora 14+) we need to make changes in the way we handle root privileges. Long story short: this is because Perl dropped their support for the perlsuid component in 5.12.
The fix for RPM-based distributions is rather intrusive in the packaging and so I recommend people to avoid our -devel repo until we have things settled down.
