Everyone:

We all have features that we would like to see
implemented in our beloved Packet Fence. We all have switches and other
networking equipment we would like to add to the list of supported
hardware.

This is only an idea, but what if we established a
consortium comprised of PF users that could band together and pool funds
to help pay for features that would be mutually beneficial to all the
members? For example: We have some Wi-Fi equipment that is currently
not supported by PF, Inverse has offered to write the necessary code for
us, for a price. Please don't misunderstand the price is more than fair
but it is a price.

If there was a single feature that we all wanted (or the
vast majority) and Inverse says that they will do the work for say
$2,000. If we had a user group just 200 strong then we could all
benefit from the new feature for a measly $10 / member.

The partnerships could even be established on a per
project basis if the community is uncomfortable with the idea of a
permanent fixture.

Please keep in mind this is ONLY a rough idea and would
obviously need serious fleshing out before it could be implemented, but
I wanted to throw the idea out there and see how the community felt
about it. In my experience a consortium is an excellent way for smaller
entities to band together and have the ability to make huge things
happen.

PS: I submitted this here because I did not know where
else to send it, if there is a more appropriate place please let me know
and I will gladly move any further discussion to that location.
