Peter, It makes sense if you are tagging your VLAN 1, eth0.1 is a VLANed interface and will tag packets using PVID 1. I usually recommend that the management VLAN is "native" (so untagged) on the trunk for PF. If that's the case, you simply need to use eth0, not eth0.1.
