Adi,

You will be able to keep your 32bit architecture if you upgrade PF.  The 2.1.0 ZEN is installed over a CentOS 5.5 64bit, thats why you have the limitation.  When I built those VMs, I assumed that in 2011, 32bit CPUs are becoming rare and most people are using 64bit architecture out of the box...anyway :P

Take a backup of your DB and all of your settings just in case, but the upgrade process is fairly simple :
- Stop PF only (service packetfence stop)
- Update PacketFence using yum (yum update packetfence)
- Update the database schema from your version up to 2.1.0, you'll need to use that file : upgrade-1.9.0-2.0.0.sql, so : mysql -u pf -p pf < upgrade-1.9.0-2.0.0.sql
- Read UPGRADE to view the changes and check if they apply to you. Read it *CAREFULLY*

Let us know if you have questions.

Thanks..

But if I upgrade to PF.2.1.0 the hardware requirement is possible right ?

I just need backup node sql database and restore to my new installation of PF2.1.0 ?

Subject: Re: [Packetfence-users] Upgrade PF Zen 1.9.0 to Zen 2.1.0

Adi,

ZEN 2.1.0 is only supported on x64 CPUs.  If you want to update, keep your 1.9 ZEN and update the packages using yum.  Make sure to follow the upgrade steps written in the UPGRADE file.

Hi..

I am intend to upgrade my PF Zen from 1.9.0 to 2.1.0, and wondering if PF ZEN 2.1.0 is able to install on NON 64bit CPU ? if not able or stable which one of PF version that I can use to upgrade my PF ?

Virtual Machine

This setup has been tested using VMWare ESXi 4.0, Fusion 3.x and Workstation 7.x with

1024MB RAM dedicated to the virtual machine. It might work using other VMWare products.

You need a CPU that support long mode. In other words, you need to have a 64bit capable

CPU on your host.

We build two separate virtual machine, one to run on ESXi 4.0 (OVF format) and one to run on

VMWare Fusion/Workstation (VMX/VMDK format).
