Quick update:

I think we nailed it today. We were [un]fortunate enough to have a very
crashy radius in our hands and some good outsider feedback. Luckily we
got it just in time for 3.2.0 (which was due today).

For those who are curious, what we think was the cause of the crashes
has been documented in the ticket:
