You lost me there. The server is connected to the internet through a 
modem router.. so both accesses to LAN and internet are done through the 
same NIC... Do you mean I need to get two NICs to split the traffic ? Or 
to connect the AP straight behind the server and not through the router? 
So that the Connection will look something like that :

Internet <--> Modem/Router <-x2-> Server
<--> Wifi AP
Or
Internet <--> Modem/Router <--> Server <--> Wifi AP
