The first connection to ldap is via a browse user that does a search
for the uid of the user.  This returns the full dn of the user which
is used during the second connection to validate the password and, I
believe, retrieve other account attributes.

I believe freeRadius handles this already as it works fine for logging
into our VPN concentrator.  I merely mention it because other software
doesn't handle this properly and it becomes an issue.
