Well...samba in wheezy backports is 4.1.17, and it works with that 
one... :-)

Yes, we are fans as well. Using those on all fileservers / DC's here.

I'll look into that. An initial google search for 'mab procurve 5400' 
returns surprisingly few results. Usually no good sign...
