Hi MJ,

Remind me again which samba packages you are using? 

This part of the logs makes me suspect a path is incorrect:

Try this. 

1. Open a shell in the chroot: 

# chroot /chroots/$DOMAIN/ bash 

2. Run windbind in foreground:

#  /usr/sbin/winbindd -F  -s /etc/samba/inverse.conf -S -d5 

3. Try to authenticate

This works for me on debian 7 and outputs a whole lot of debugging information.
The answer may be in there.
