Hi All,

I just installed PacketFence at home to see what it can do for me and my
organization. I am quite new to using VLANs on my network. So I have some
questions. Let me begin by explaining the scenario.

   Internet
        |
[OpenWRT] <-- dhcp, dns, firewall, etc. (802.1X wired/wireless ready)
(TPLink WDR4200)
        |
        |
[Managed Switch] <-- out of the box, no specific configuration (TPLink
JetStream)
        |
        |
[Server] <-- Proxmox Hypervisor. It has two NIC's, but only one is used now
[PacketFence] <-- KVM virtual machine CentOS6

PF is installed in VLAN-mode. I haven't configured the VLAN's yet,
according to the manual I should do this:
VLAN 1: Management 172.16.8.8 eth0
VLAN 2: Registration 172.16.16.1 eth0?
VLAN 3: Isolation 172.16.24.1 eth0?
VLAN 10: Normal 172.16.32.1 ? eth0?

My network: is 172.16.8.0/21

Q. What happens to my network if the PacketFence server goes down? Does the
network go down, now that PF is an integral part? Or partly?

Q. Should I add more than one (virtual) NIC to the VM?

Q. And this is my real question. Do I require multiple cables between
server and switch??? Or can all VLAN's go over the same cable?

Sorry for the beginner questions. I try to follow the manual and search
online, but it's just not detailed enough for a starter like me.

Thanks all!
