All, On my clean build of my packet fence server for the new school year, I start getting user complaints about new device registrations about two weeks in from a reboot. A reboot fixes the problem, but I hit a load of 50-60 for several hours before the system settles down. I am completely inline with no vlan/switch configurations. It is a virtual machine with 4 processors and 6 GB of ram. There are no other virtual machine on this server running at this time.
Here is what happens: 1. Start server, load jumps to 50 for several hours. Residents can still use system, but device registration is slow 2. 24 hour after reboot system is running at a load of .5 and everything is running fine. 3. 1.5 weeks, most devices have been registered and that occasional device works fine, but I may get one that hangs. The user will either register the device on the registration page or through gaming-device. Once connected, it will go to the page that informs the user that the device is being activated and to wait for a few minutes. 4. 2 Weeks, All users start to get the same message. The message never goes away. I try to restart services, but it usually hangs so the only option I am left with is to force reboot the server. 5. Go to step 1 The question I have is what would be causing the restorations to “fail to activate” and is there a better way to resolve it besides weekly reboots of the system? Any help would be great. — Gregory A. Thomas Student Life Support Specialist University of Wisconsin-Parkside [email protected] 262-854-0105
