The separate servers are now working normally. Not sure why exactly but, I did realise we had helper addresses for both servers configured in one large list of helpers. After creating specific dhcp server groups for each vlan with just the required servers listed, everything seems to be working OK.
Also my other message about the laptop getting 169.254 addresses when unregistering and re-registering. After increasing the DHCP lease time to 60 seconds that problem went away also, just with a slightly longer wait until the page redirects to the landing page after registration. I would still like to find a way to slow down the progress bar during the registration in the captive portal. There is no setting under Configuration -> Captive Portal that I can see, so I was wondering if I can just hack it in the source file? If so which file should I be looking at.
