I have been seeing others use or mention Docker Hub and such.  I knew of this some years ago but didn't need it at the time and thought I didn't need another
complicated wrapper around what I was doing.

But I see that it provides a consistent container for apps. to install and run so
there are many embracing developers and companies using it.

I'll pursue it to find out what it can do for me, although just going back to running
in a virtual machine might be easier over all.

Thanks, I'm getting there on knowledge....

Hi Dude,

You could try installing Docker on your desktop machine and then using one of the docker images on Docker Hub. It looks like InverseInc (PacketFence maintainers) have released new images 10 days ago:

I hope this helps.

Hi Dude,

Best practice from what I have found is to use Centos 7 minimal install (command line only) and use install instructions https://packetfence.org/doc/PacketFence_Installation_Guide.html#_installing_packetfence_on_existing_linux for Redhat –based systems. But it looks like Debian is supported as well as the ZEN VMware virtual machine.

However, I don’t think any of them support a GUI. Also, when Packetfence installs, it configures everything to work with Packetfence, and nothing else. I have found installing additional software (such as a GUI) on Packetfence servers to be problematic and many times will not work at all.

Hi,
New User trying to learn the ropes.  Didn't see much mention of this problem I'm encountering.

I installed CentOS7 on a fresh machine, works well and GNOME Desktop works fine.

Then I follow the instructions to use 'yum' to install Packetfence.

Once done, the xserver won't run any more and has quit, back to command line/login.

When I run 'startx' it loads, shows the desktop for seconds then says "lost xerver connection"
and I'm back at the command line.

I don't see any FAQ or recommendations on rather a user can use a GUI desktop to manage the PC that PF is installed on and if then  VNC can be used for further administer the PC that PF is running on.  I have other apps on that PC I will be running that need GUI interface to
actually administrator them.

Any hints here?
Where am I not seeing the light?
