i have compiled the source rpm and have seen the following interesting 
information in the configure step:

checking for platform specific LDFLAGS/CFLAGS... ok
checking for nasm... no
configure: WARNING: no correct assembler was found - Compiling generic sources 
only
checking stdio.h usability... yes

So it seems yasm is not needed anymore, xvid wants nasm. After installation of 
nasm and rebuilding xvid, i got a package which resulted in better 
performance. I now get about 10-11 fps with xvid, which is quite good. The 
problem here is that xvid won't use sse/mmx optimizations if nasm is missing 
and only uses the C-Sources. Therefor performance degrades dramatically.

Can you check this in your building Manfred?
