[MH] == Manfred Hollstein <[email protected]> has written:

MH> Hi there,

MH> MPlayer cannot be built on Tumbleweed since quite some time. One reason
MH> is that it still needs ffmpeg-6 which in turn needs libSvtAv1Enc3 which
MH> no longer exists in TW.

MH> I took some time today and re-created the old SVT-AV1-3.0.1 based
MH> package as a new package A_tw-SVT-AV1 in Essentials; ffmpeg-6 then
MH> needed to restrict the build time requirement for libSvtAv1Enc to ignore
MH> versions >= 4. This resulted in a new build of MPlayer an hour ago.

MH> But, to be honest, MPlayer is a dead horse, isn't it? It hasn't seen a
MH> new release since over 4 years. Shouldn't we disable it for Tumbleweed
MH> at least? As long as it still builds for Leap, it can remain enabled for
MH> them, but the stunts I did with the libSvtAv1Enc3 and ffmpeg-6 fixes are
MH> overkill, aren't they?

MH> What do others think? Should the stuff kept around and MPlayer gets
MH> deactivated after the next build failure, or should I disable it right
MH> away on Tumbleweed?

I build the MPlayer svn head almost every day.

  MPlayer 1.5.r38685-16 (C) 2000-2026 MPlayer Team

However, since MPlayer development has stalled since February 2022, it
is now recommended to use mpv instead.

It's true that mpv is more feature-rich and comes in handy.

Bets Regards.
