This happened to me when I installed updated Wx debs without rebuilding
the Wx perl module. I experienced hard kernel lockups requiring a power-off.
I resolved the issue by rebuilding the Wx module after installing the debs.
It appears that, in your case, you've already done that and are still
experiencing kernel crashes.
