Yes, I finally found the selection (not very intuitive to me): Tools | Preferences | Editor Style and there is a font selection button. Unfortunately, Padre will not take the font I want to use (just installed through the Debian 8 packages (fonts-freefont-otf). I have filed a bug for the problem.
