present CHRISTIAN L. SCHEURER Anthropology of the Imaginary Conceptual Art of Film, Animation and Video Game in this Lecture Christian L. Scheurer will take you on visual journey through his fifteen year career in Hollywood as a conceptual Designer, Matte Painter and Art Director for Feature Films, Animation and Video Games. He will relay his personal experience of how he started working for the Hollywood " Dream Machine " and how he sustained his career by shifting within various artistic disciplines and genres Christian L. Scheurer Christian Lorenz Scheurer was born in Berne (Switzerland) in 1967. He spent his childhood travelling before training in science. He then attended the École St-Luc in Brussels to learn the art of his first passion: comic books. After working on a number of film projects in Brussels, he was struck by lightning, an accident which taught him how short and fragile life is. Following his recovery, he decided to move to Hollywood. In 1995, he joined the Digital Domain (Los Angeles) special effects company as a concept artist. He contributed to the film The Fifth Element (1997) then worked on more ambitious film projects such as Titanic (1997) and Matrix (1999). After helping to create the film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001), Scheurer moved to the world of video games. Since then, Christian L. Scheurer has worked as much for the cinema as for video games: he is involved in the conception (characters, environment, etc.) and the creation of digital scenery. He also held the post of art director at Electronic Arts for The Lords of the Rings: The Return of the King, and produced the first studies for Spore. Today Christian L. Scheurer is working on his own film project based on his book, Entropia.
