JAKARTA - A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 jolted the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia's West Sumatra Province on Sunday, but there have been no reports of damage or casualties, government officials said.


Suharjono, an analyst with the Jakarta-based Meteorological and Geophysics Agency, said the quake's focus was about 120 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Padang on the main Sumatra Island and 30 km under the seabed. (Kyodo News)
