Asean-US Dialogue Still Problematic, Says Abdullah

NEW YORK, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- The Asean-United States Dialogue remains
problematic although it has been going on for 28 years, Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Thursday.
"I feel that this partnership still suffers a considerable problem with
expectations which do not match," he said in his speech on "Creating a
Better Understanding of Asean-US Relations" at a talk organised by the Asia
Society here.
He said Asean expected the US to be an important strategic, economic and
development partner while the US, on the other hand, gave higher priority
to Asean as a strategic partner for political and regional security purposes.
