Learn, Relax At Cameron Highlands' MARDI Station

CAMERON HIGHLANDS, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Visitors to the Malaysian
Agriculture and Research Institute's (MARDI) station here could not escape
noticing the "cool and green" exuberance at its Agro-Technology Park.
The splendour of the place attracted some 60,000 visitors last year, making
it a must-visit destination for holiday makers to this Malaysian premier
hill resort.
This RM8 million park was officially opened by the Sultan of Pahang on June
14, 2003.
Built in the colonial year of 1925, the station was then known as the
Federal Experimental Station (FES).
After Malaya gained its independence, the station was placed under the
Agriculture Ministry. Its federal status maintained until the station was
handed over to Mardi in 1971.
EDUCATIONAL PARK
Initial research conducted at the station centred on the growing of
vegetables before it was expanded to cover fruits and flowers.
"This Agro-Technology Park is like an educational park," the station's
manager Mohd Ridzuan M. Saad told Bernama at an interview here.
"Visitors can observe for themselves the technology that we have developed
for use in the highlands while they relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of
this place," he said.
