It's not an elegant problem.
Since you've got to force the user to enter some data, I say go ahead and
force them. If you get an appStop event during editing a partial record,
put up the dialog telling the user what data must be added. Giving them
the option to delete the partial record instead is a nice touch.
The user experience won't be *too* horrible. They tap calc and get the
alert saying they can't do that right now, and why. They either fix the
problem or delete the record, then tap calc again.
Trying to keep a partial record in limbo sounds like a nightmare.
