Eric,
Look up DmOpenDatabaseByTypeCreator and review the Data Manager calls (Part
III of the SDK manuals). If you know the type and creator of a database,
yes you can open it. You may also wish to look at the source code for the
built-in apps, which comes with Codewarrior.
If you don't know the type and creator, you can also do it by local id and
card number, which you can obtain using other Dm calls. Note that although
you can open any other app's db this way, you will still need to know what
the record layout is if you want to have a shot at correctly interpreting
the records.
