Is HotSync turned off when you do this?  Both CW and HotSync will use
the COM port exclusively when in use.  So, you may need to shut down
HotSync to run CW if they are configured to use the same COM port.

As an aside, one thing I did was buy a spare cradle & serial port card
for my desktop.  I put HotSync on one COM port and CW on the other.
Then I just place the palm in the cradle corresponding to the operation
I want to perform (sync vs. development).
