I totally agree. One of the reasons the Windows platform has
been so successful is because it's provided a common language for
all applications to speak. When applications on Palm devices can
all talk to each other it will be a major leap ahead.
BTW, have you seen or heard of Ed Keyes' Troubadour protocol? It
was proposed 2+ years ago but never took off, I guess. You can get

Also, I'm not sure if this has been released or not, but the
author of FieldPic Hack posted here with some questions about the
same issue.
