If you're heading towards counting up all the mA being sucked down and
estimating a ETA on battery death, I wouldn't count on the mA draw between
models to remain the same. For that matter, my experiments shows that the
mA drain may vary from unit to unit (not to mention a larger current draw if
a TRG board is installed).
If you use the thresholds available within the OS APIs I found that it gives
my apps ample time to shut down and/or warn the user.
You would also have to consider future battery chemistries. The V has
different consumption curve than the Pro, III or IIIx.

but that does not explain why if he reads the battery voltage
once - he gets 85%, and if he reads it repeatively it changes
to 100%.
what would happen if the voltage was 30%? and then it was
repeatedly checked? would it still return 100%?
i guess you are zapping the battery for information too
fast - and hence it gets hot (and fools to Palm to think
it is full?)
it is a pity that decay of batteries of not linear.. :))
why would one want to check the battery info in an application
anyhow? (for programs other than system information of course)..
just imagine it.. a game that starts up and says:
"ps: you only have 15 minutes of play time
before the battery dies"
is there an API routine to check if the backdisplay is lit? (you
could also add this to your calculation of time left) :>
cheers.
