For the trivia inclined, the original Pilot(TM) was almost named
"TouchDown." That would most certainly have avoided these verbose naming
ambiguities, but TouchDown doesn't sound as "catchy." I guess 3Com/Palm
Computing really "fumbled" that one.
Hotsync(R) can't be used as a verb for the same reason Palm(R) (sigh, or
should it be (TM)?) can't be used a noun. In casual conversation though, I
find myself saying stuff like "just hotsync the data," so it's very
difficult to keep these terms out of public domain.

All this could have been avoided if 3Com had chosen a better name to replace
PalmPilot. 3Com, if you change it again, please select a single word.
Something like PalmaTron, or Palmarooni, Palmetto, PalmaLamaDingDong.
On a side issue, I think that HotSync works pretty well as a verb, just like
"input." It's a lot like "synchronize," which is a verb. "Hotsync your
data
to the Palmetto."
