Constructive criticism always appreciated. :-)
I did not intend to convey "quit bugging me or I'll stop working on the
problem". I meant a couple of different things. First, I'm not _supposed_
to be working this - I'm just making a little time because I care about
this stuff. Also, if I am not treated in a friendly manner, I'm much less
likely to want to go out of my way to deal with things I'm not supposed to
be dealing with anyways. That's all. I have no problem with repeated
reminders, continued discussion, and especially offers of help. This
particular problem is a good example because it really could be very
serious. The only reason I say 'could be' is that we have yet to be able
to reproduce it and have no hard data on how widespread the problem really
is.
You're absolutely right about my representing palm if my email address says
'palm.com' on it. I did stop to think about that recently, and that's why
I suggested that perhaps I need to better define my presence here on the
list. From now on, I'll either post from my private email account, or buy
some asbestos underwear...

Like it or not, if you've got a "@palm.com" on
your e-mail, you are an ambassador for your
company.
I was less concerned about the temperature of
your original message than I was about something
else -- something that you just repeated in this
message: the idea that you might just stop working
on the issue.
-That- is what I considered most unprofessional,
in both of these messages. You're working for
3Com/Palm, when you speak you are speaking as
a representative of that company. Whether you
are participating in this list in an official
or unofficial capacity, you're still a representative
of that company.
If the messages is "stop bugging me or we'll stop
working on it", -that- is unprofessional. Whether
it is couched in flamage or in the nicest possible
prose, it is that message -- and attitude -- that
is unacceptable in a represenatitive of the company
whose product we are all discussing.
I hope you take this as constructive criticism
and not as flamage, for that is how it is intended.
