hej!

just a little warning for people who wish to use
the HotSync name as a registration key:

   http://www.rhein-main.de/people/collin/palmpilot/change_hotsync_name.c

i suggest what you do is ensure that you dont just
set a bit saying they are registered once they
  enter in the registration code.

    http://www.rhein-main.de/people/collin/palmpilot/palmname.zip

Colin Mulliner has developed a little program to allow
the user to change his or her HotSync name (not that there
is anything wrong with that!) :)) - sometimes i can see
  the need for it!

i can see an army of people thinking "hey, if that
program uses my HotSync name, i can change it
temporarially and then register!! :) - then i can
change back.. and i have full access to software..
all i need to do now is get a list of valid
  HotSync and regCode combinations.

what i do in my developments is ALWAYS check the
registration code - it takes like 1/100 of a second
to run through my byte mutation.

if the HotSync username changes, so does the program
access. - they will need a new code, and need to email
  me for a replacement.

just a warning.. ensure you are ready to protect
your software at all costs! :)) these people will
be NON-HACKERS - and it is very simple to change
the HotSync username with this application!

ps: Colin - this is not a personal attack to you,
i am just doing what you outline at
the bottom of your own pages - considering
how to ensure the security of our
              shareware software.

  cheers.

az.
