Bob,
I can assure you that I had this problem BRAND New, Fresh out of the
box, PalmV.
I had just bought it and could not wait to get home for my first sync
before playing with it.
I found that the PalmV would not wake up for alarms. I called Palm
Support and they told me to return it to the store. At that point I
realized that I really should have tried a soft reset so I did. The soft
reset worked. I bought my V on the first day of it's release and it has not
re-occured. This problem is NOT a 3rd party app problem. I had zero apps
installed.
Palm support probably has my original trouble report on record, they
gave me a number to reference if I had and trouble returning the unit to the
store.
I have helped several people with this exact problem who have emailed me
at my support email address.

In reporting this problem, it would help us greatly if you could make a
distinction between a "new" Palm V organizer and one that is not running any
3rd party software. I think a lot of people might interpret "brand new" to
mean no additional apps installed, and I know this is rarely the case!
