Beamer uses OBEX, a higher level "object" protocol which is unlikely to be
supported by your field equipment. You need to determine the level of IrDA
supported on your equipment. Then you need to get a good primer on how to
use the Palm SDK's lower-level IR library.
1. The Palm docs give the "what" but not the "how" or the "why"
2. There was a Dr. Dobbs article a few weeks back on IR. I haven't read it
yet, but I heard it was well done.
3. Our book on Palm programming (scheduled for publication in 2 weeks)
contains an entire chapter on IR library programming, and comes with source
code for a working Palm-Palm IR application. You should be able to easily
modify this sample for your own purposes. We're working on posting an
excerpt from this chapter on our web site this week (hopefully today).
You'll also see some announcements from Macmillan/Sams and Bachmann
Software regarding the book in the next week or two.
