Yes, you can use the serial port for testing IrDA. It is easy. You just
enter the graffiti sequence : <shortcut>.s
where <shortcut> is the graffiti shortcut character. You enter this in any
text field in any app to make beaming use the serial port instead of the
IrDA port. Entering the sequence a second time reverses this so the IrDA
port is enabled again. A reset will also restore IrDA mode. I have used
this to debug between two devices, between the device and Poser and between
the device and the simulator so you debug in source on the Mac simulator.
If you are calling the IrDA library directly, there is an option call to
set the serial mode you can use to enable the same thing.
There is also a <shortcut>.t mode to enable loopback testing to your own
app.
