do you have an example app that will do this, or better yet, sample code?
That would be nice to write myself, instead of paying for another app.

Backupbuddy will do it for you, but I'm not sure if there's a Linux version.

Anyway, a backup conduit is quite easy to write. A conduit can open any
database, not
just its own. So, you just have to go through all databases, and grab every
record.
Since programs are databases, you will even backup the programs.
