This question has arised more than once, and because of it at least two threads in this list have strayed out of subject - partly because of a discussion between me and Aaron Ardiri with opposite viewpoints.

Sun has recently released the news that it divided the Java API specification in three deployment groups. One of these is the Micro Edition. This Java 2 Micro Edition API is going to be implemented on the Palm, and a pre-release version has been distributed at the JavaOne conference.

What I'd like to know is the opinion of Palm developers on the specification of this API.

  • Does it meet the requisites of small devices?
  • Does it meet the requisites for Palm development?
  • Can it be fast and small enough?
  • Should it be more complete, closer to the Standard Edition? What features do you find lacking? Should the lacking features be added to the API or provided separately? By whom?
