Setting the alarm to zero is exactly how you clear the alarm.
Are you sure you passed a (ULong) zero ?

The documentation on the alarm API says it can be used to set and clear an
alarm. How do I go about clearing the alarm? If I gend the function 0 or a
negative number, it just triggers the alarm right then. Of course the
documentation (my copy anyway) doesn't say how to clear the alarm, only
that
it can.
