No, but what version of the Palm OS are you running this on? The
performance of the memory allocation (and compaction) improved both in 3.0
as well as in 3.1 - in 3.1 I bet it is quite a bit faster, though I haven't
run metrics. I don't recall if 3.2 is better than 3.1 in this regard.
If this is a throwaway app that you just need to work once, run it on
something with the very latest ROM for best performance. (Gee, that's not
a statement that usually applies to operating systems; usually they get
slower! So far we've been holding the line reasonably well, I think,
probably because we haven't been bumping up the processor along with
Moore's law.)
