'REAd' belongs to me, as the author of the original Doc. We don't have
to register data base types, so anybody can use 'TEXt', but it would
be best if you only use that for Doc-compatible databases. Aportis has
an exclusive license from me for the Doc program, to enable them to
do all of those great improvements in the program they've promised...
The compression routine for Doc was worked out by Pat Beirne. He has
always given it freely to anyone who asked, but it would be nice if
people remember to credit him for the idea (which works pretty well).
The C++ code for compression and decompression is posted many places,
and I can send you a copy of Pat's program if you like.
Derivations, I'm not so sure, but I think others have added tags for
extra things, like images, or html but I'm not sure how universaly those
are recognized.
