I sure understand that, however my spouse/co-author Liz O'Hara and I don't
worry too much about the "for dummies" part of the titles. IDG Books has
the marketing power, shelf space, and brand recognition. We deliver the
product within the framework of the "for dummies" series.
This book, like our CORBA for Dummies, isn't condescending. Like all "for
dummies" books, we don't assume you're a seasoned developer (of Palm OS
applications in our case). We do assume you know C. We develop the examples
using both Code Warrior and the GNU compiler, and although the CD-ROM does
not include a Mac demo version of Code Warrior Lite (no Mac/Palm version
exists, alas) it does have CW Lite for Windows & the GCC win32
distribution, along with other demos, all the example code, and three
additional chapters that didn't fit in the book. For someone just starting
out it has all you need in one package. There are also advanced topics
(TCP/IP, Serial I/O, Beaming, Conduits (Java version), Databases & Memory,
etc) for the more experienced developer.
In short, we feel that this book will help a wide range of developers. If
you can get past the title, take a look at the book in a bookstore before
you give up on it ;)
