Don't forget there's that handy little device called The Bridge, that
slips over the connector on cradle types 1 and 2. There are two types
of bridge: one that accepts handheld devices types 1 and 2, and the
other that accepts handheld devices type 3.
I suppose it might work for cables as well as cradles.
