Chris,
A future revision of Palm OS will include a new system feature with a
variety of character encoding-specific attributes, including a
right-to-left flag. Details will be provided at PalmSource, when official
specs will be available.
So eventually your code would check for the presence of this new feature;
if it doesn't exist, then you'd need to fall back to doing specific checks
for older versions of Hebrew (or Arabic?) hacks. If they are hacks, then I
think a specific feature gets installed for them by HackMaster...right?
Hopefully future versions of these hacks will set appropriate values in the
Palm OS feature.
A note for Richard Hartman...I'm not sure how the Hebrew hack handles this,
but typically on RTL systems the meaning of the left justified setting gets
changed to "system justification". The meaning of right/center
justification stay as is, and often there's a new 'force left'
justification setting. That's why you need to know how to interpret the
left (system) justification setting if you've got something that's messing
with displayed field text.
