Pose is silent under Win9x

I beg your excuses if this problem is already documented somewhere (although I couldn't find any trace after 4 hours of intense research).
My questions are:
why doesn't pose emit sounds under Windows 9x?
what am I missing?

Pose ver.: 2.1d29
PalmOS: 3.0

I'm developing a musical app: it would be much easier to debug with pose.
