Dan,

I can confirm that the effects of changing from one form to another look
atypical. And I don't think I've ever seen any other application display the
same effects. However, though I looked at your source code, I'm not a strong
Palm OS application engineer, and so don't know what -- if anything -- you might
be doing wrong.

Subject: GCC users - Restaurant application

I'm an old C programmer but a novice programmer for Palm Computing(R)
Platform.
With Palm Programming: The Developers's Guide by Neil Rhodes & Julie
McKeehan in one hand,
MemoPad source code in other, I try to create a new application.

The application should be used by you when you go to a restaurant. The steps
are the following:
01. Open the device
02. Click on a restaurant from the list
03. See Name, Address, Phone
04. Call and make the reservation.
05. Power off
06. ---------- go to restaurant ----- eat --- request bill -------
07. Power on. You will be in the same application...
08. Click on Order
09. Enter in the table:
     Shrimps D x.45
     Beef A y.30
     Soup T zz
     Coke D aa

You could press at anytime the Total button which will show in a popup:
     Total 45$
     D 23$
     A 10$
     T 12$

(As you can guess, D,A,T are persons who eat with you)

You get the picture, isn't it?

Now, I already wrote 1,2,3. You could manage your restaurants. I will add
category
to be able to select chinese, indian, american, french, etc. restaurants and
order part.

The problem? I can see sometimes in Poser (for a short time) garbage before
the real data
appear in form. Something is wrong with my application? It's a short one,
take a look. I
know this sound stupid ("I don't know what's wrong, would you like to look
at my application"),
but maybe some folks which are beginners too but smarter than me will detect
something. Or
maybe this way Poser run? No, because the original Address book works well.
Is this how GCC
compiled? No, I haven't heard about GCC generating slow code.

Drag and drop the application in Poser. Run it. Try to observe garbage
appearing for short time
when you switch forms. If you are currious, look through code (basic stuff,
really). If you find
something, please tell me. If you like it, use it. Anyway, when the
application will be ready, will
be freeware. This is my learning application. Let's learn together... About
the last "Let's learn...",
maybe Neil & Julie will make a forum for beginers which learn programming
for Palm Computing(R)
Platform using their book, to help us not look stupid in experts eyes. I saw
a lot of discussion on this
forum about serial, IR, etc. I hope I will be like you soon. Until then,
please excuse me for this long letter,
take it as a weekend lecture.

The final words: I use Pose 2.1d29 with 3.3b5 ROM on a WinNT, developping
with GNU Developping Kit.
Have a nice weekend, and laugh when you'll find my mistake.

If you are interested, please download the application from

Wait, don't click delete, it is a 8kb zip file (very, very small) and you
could also look at pictures from
my briefcase. They was taken near London, UK, nice castles. Just click the
link and select Palm Developer
Forum folder. By the way, I think we should also change the forum name to
Palm Computing(R) Platform
Developer Forum.

All the best and a nice weekend to you all,
Dan Laba.
