I just released my Scrabble-like "Crosswords" game. Some of the
dictionaries users can download are close to 200K, and all may contain
records within a few bytes of the 0xFFFF limit.
I'm getting reports from Palm Pro users that they can't install the larger
dictionary files.
Is there a problem with the 64K records that's specific to older Palms?
Or is it simply the case that the OS sometimes can't allocate enough
blocks of that size, and that this is more likely on older (and
perhaps more fragmented, and certainly less memory-rich) devices?
(If I'm right that smaller blocks would be more likely to be allocated
successfully, does anyone have experience to suggest the right size to
choose? There's a slight speed hit when the word-search engine has to
cross more boundaries -- of course.)
Thanks,
